Cornered Tumbleweed

Dried ecru tumbleweed

Wind driven tangled baskets

Rolling along for miles

Finally corralled and

Herded into a corner

This is the last poem that I have managed to translate.  I will resume translating more of my poems into Czech after the holidays.  I originally wrote this poem in 1967.

ALONE

The wind

howled

I felt a surge

of emotion

rush

through me

Leaves crackled

underfoot

Trees

reached

for me

Autumn

echoed

in every

woebegone

niche

As I

broke

into

a run

Vítr kvílí

Cítím se

Listí

pod nohama

šustí

Stromy

vztahují

ke mně své paže

A já

cítím podzim

v každém

zanedbalém výklenku

A dávám se

do běhu

The debris

Of life in

A dance of

The macabre

As the moon

Choked on the

Dust and died

Vítr kvílí

v čarovném kruhu

Nebesa pláčou

Stromy se svlékají

do naha

Aby srostly

s troskami života

V tanci smrti

A měsíc

v tom prachu

Umírá
